Bella Lago started as a dream of Merrisa and Gabe Barnhardt in 1997. Merrisa purchased her first business, Merle Norman Cosmetics, at the age of 21. Merrisa went on over the next 6 years to own and operate several successful Merle Norman Cosmetics stores in and around the Piedmont of North Carolina, many of which she increased the sales more that 100% in the short time that she owned them. But she had a bigger dream! A dream of owning one of the top salon and spas in the South Eastern US. Gabe worked as a project manager of a major commercial contractor before breaking off and starting his own construction company in 2004. Merrisa obtained her aesthetic license in 2003 and started making plans to open her own salon and spa.

After years of searching for the right location the dream started to take shape in 2006 when they purchased land in Mooresville. After researching and visiting many of the top salon and spas in the US, Merrisa decided that AVEDA was the company that she wanted to partner with in starting her dream salon and spa. After years of research, planning, hard work, and dedication the salon and spa was ready to start construction in January of 2007. Gabe’s construction company built the salon and spa and it was completed and ready to open for business in August of 2007. Bella Lago continues to build a reputation of being the place to go for good service around the Lake Norman area. Bella Lago became one of the only salons in the area to become an AVEDA Lifestyle salon in less than one year of business, and shows no sign of slowing down. Over the course of this crazy business journey Gabe and Merrisa have been blessed to have 3 beautiful children, Gabrielle, Brody, and London, who remind them everyday of how precious life is!
